Mr Scarci specializes in keyhole surgery techniques and is a specialist cancer keyhole surgeon. Whereas standard open surgical approaches to the chest usually involve creating a large opening in the chest wall, video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is a minimally invasive (keyhole) surgical procedure.
Mr Scarci uses only a single three-centimetre incision for his VATS operations. A very small video camera is inserted and the pictures from inside the chest cavity are shown on a screen to guide use of the surgical instruments.
