A thoracic surgeon is a medical specialist who treats conditions and diseases related to the organs in the chest, also known as the thoracic cavity. These organs include the lungs, heart, and major blood vessels. Thoracic surgeons often perform surgeries to treat lung cancer, esophageal cancer, conditions requiring lung transplantation, congenital heart defects, and other thoracic diseases or injuries.
