What is thoracic assessment?

Thoracic assessment is a medical examination used to evaluate the health and functionality of the thoracic region, which includes the chest area and the organs and structures within it. During a thoracic assessment, a healthcare professional may perform various tests and procedures to assess the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.

This can involve listening to the lungs and heart sounds, inspecting and palpating the chest, and checking for any signs of abnormalities or distress. Thoracic assessments are often conducted as part of routine physical examinations, as well as to diagnose and monitor certain medical conditions.
